Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs already have station vans which give police more flexibility to move around.
A tender is open for a company to provide the mobile station for Katherine and applications close later this month.
The member for Katherine is pleased with the move.
The Country Liberals' Willem Westra Van Holthe says the town used to have a station van but it got redeployed.
"I remember the Katherine mobile police station sitting idle for many many months at a time," he said.
"When it was rolled out in response to some publicity about anti-social behaviour in Katherine the pro-active approach to policing really did work."
